Swedish Table Setting: A Family Tradition!

I vividly remember the first dinner party I attended when visiting family in Sweden. A long table was set with a place for every guest, it was decorated with bright colors and had Swedish flags down the center – I immediately could see where my mom got her table setting talents and inspiration from! Since Amanda and I were young, every holiday table in our home has been decorated so beautifully and precisely by our mother, it looked like it was from a magazine photo-shoot.

This month we had extended family from Sweden visit us in the states. Of course, we invited them for a shared meal and cocktails around our dining room table! We used the traditional Swedish colors of blue and yellow as our inspiration – along with a few darker hues for the Fall season. What we have learned from our mom is that you don’t need the most expensive, fancy dishes and linens for a beautiful table – you just need to take your time and look at the details of your table.

Below is what our final table setting looked like for our dinner and celebration with relatives from abroad. A well-set table doesn’t make soiree perfect – but it sure adds a beautiful touch!
